Elaine McGoldrick

Family Therapist

Qualified as a Family Therapist in 2012 with the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Mater Hospital, Dublin.

Welcome to Family Therapy

I have worked in the Mental Health Services both here and in the UK as a registered nurse for over 20 years. I have held two Specialist Posts in Self-Harm in A&E, Beaumont Hospital and Perinatal Mental Health in the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital. Family Therapy, or to give it its full title, Family and Systemic Psychotherapy considers people in the context of their relationship with each other and with their social environment.

Family Therapy enables family members, couples and others who care about each other to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, to understand each other’s experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, to build on strengths and relational resources. It values inclusivity and diversity.

Family Therapy helps families and individuals

Family therapy helps families and individuals to make useful changes in their relationships and their lives. Family Therapy is an opportunity to reflect on important relationships and find ways forward. I have been working as a Family Therapist since 2012 both in the Health Service and in a voluntary capacity.
